Happy Pride Month!

I heard the great news about marriage equality in the United States. Congratulations to the United States. Everyone should be able to marry who they love. It’s a fundamental right. We’re not going to win all the battles overnight, but this is a huge step in the right direction. It was also great hearing the news about trans people in Ireland being able to self identify on government ID without having to go to a psychologist. I’m also very happy for Mexico getting marriage equality as well. All this stuff happened in the first half of 2015, and hopefully in the second half of 2015 and beyond, even more progress will be made.

I saw a lot of support for marriage equality from all of my friends on Facebook and people I follow on other social networking sites! I was happy to see all the positivity and support! This is a great thing! Allies are very important to a movement. It’s a big help being there for your friends and listening to them. It’s a big help educating people about LGBT+ issues and it’s great to see people educating themselves and reading about the issues and learning – people change. I’m always happy to answer any (reasonable – non invasive) questions. Signing petitions and raising awareness of issues is great too! Keep up the good work! I am happy to see Pride flags everywhere on the internet. Snapchat had a Pride story and it was cool to watch! Sadly I won’t be able to go to the Pride Parade in Chicago tomorrow since I’m on a road trip. I went last year and it was a lot of fun. Marriage equality in Illinois was celebrated that year. It took effect on 1 June 2014, and signed into law on 20 November 2013.

The Diversity of Classic Rock is a blog that celebrates just that. Part of what makes classic rock great is the diversity of musicians and their influences. Music is something for all to enjoy. To celebrate Pride I made these two posters. One for Pride in general, and another for Bisexual Pride. As someone who is bisexual, it comes with a lot of unique challenges. There are many stereotypes and misconceptions. Bisexuals are often erased. Within the LGBT+ community, bisexuals can face invisibility and there’s prejudice against bisexuals. Watch how Piper is treated in Orange is the New Black, and you’ll see an example of that.

Happy Pride Month everyone!
