Interview: Pete Kosanovich releases new album

Psychedelic folk rock musician Pete Kosanovich is back with another album coming out on the 21st of December. The Winter Solstice is the darkest day and longest night of the year and can be quite a sad time, hence why you have people putting up lights, gathering together for meals with their loved ones, and musicians cheering people up with their music. But that means the days only get longer, a little silver lining there. The winter holidays are a time for togetherness and appreciating the people you love and care about. This time it’s a studio album called Beauty Within You. A couple of singles from the album are out now and you can listen to them below: “Fade Away” and “Three O’Clock in the Morning”. If you like authentic psychedelic folk rock with lyrics from the heart, Pete’s music is perfect for you.

We’re lucky to have Pete back again for another Q&A. Keep on reading if you want to learn more about the album and what he’s been up to:

Angie: What was it like writing and recording your latest album Beauty Within You?

Pete: It was a very busy time. I was juggling going on tour and looking after my son at the same time as well as recording. The songs on the album were written over a period of 12 months. I wrote around 40 new songs and narrowed down best 15 tracks for the album.

Angie: You spent a lot of time working on the album while balancing other responsibilities, how do you stay sane?

Pete: I exercise a lot which keeps me mentally in a good place.

Angie: What were the biggest inspirations behind the album?

Pete: I was aiming to create a 60’s/ 70’s style folk album. I have always been a massive fan of singer/ songwriters from that era like Jim Croce, John Prine, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Taylor etc.

Angie: A couple of singles have been released from the album, how have they been received?

Pete: Very positive feedback from various sources. Sandy Denny’s daughter Georgia Lucas was raving about the first single ‘Fade Away’ which I thought was pretty cool.

Angie: What are your favourite songs from the album?

Pete: “Fade Away”, “Three O’Clock In The Morning”, and “Mirror Mirror”. I really like my piano playing on “Mirror Mirror”.

Angie: You recently collaborated with Dave Renegade, producing and playing multiple instruments on his album Haunted Heart, can you tell me more about that?

Pete: Yes the recording sessions for the album started around a year ago and Dave has some great songs, so I wanted to produce his album. I played bass, acoustic guitar, and piano on some tracks as well as a spot of backing vocals.

Angie: What have you been listening to lately?

Pete: Bill Wilson’s Ever Changing Minstrel album from 1973. Check it out!

Angie: What are your plans and goals for next year?

Pete: To go on tour in my home land Serbia and to record another album.
