One of the things I love most about the UK is that occasionally a throwback song appears in the charts decades later thanks to a movie or a re-release of the song. One of the most recent examples of this is “Murder on the Dancefloor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, released in 2001, which is 23 years ago. When the song came out, it was a top 10 hit all over Europe and peaked at #2 in the UK, but it only charted on the dance charts in the US, which explains why I didn’t know this song, despite the early 2000s being my childhood.
To think that the early 2000s is retro now, makes me feel old! The song was used in the final scene of the black comedy/thriller Saltburn, not gonna spoil it for those who haven’t watched it yet, but it’s a pretty funny, but dark scene. Unsurprisingly, in this age of TikTok, the earworm “Murder on the Dancefloor” became a trend on the app, with rich people running through their mansions to the song.
While I was high I thought I could do something similar on a way lower budget (gotta love highdeas). I may live in just a simple two-up two-down, but I put a lot of effort in making my living room look Victorian and fancy so I thought it would be the perfect place to film. And so I wore an outfit that was similar to one that Dave Davies wore in the 60s: a red coat and a pink psychedelic looking shirt with a dagger collar:

Here’s my take on his look. The coat is a made to measure one from Marmalade Shop and the shirt is from The Hippie Shake. The necklace is from Scorpio Rising.

The promo video is on my Instagram, but for those who don’t have Instagram, you can find it on YouTube.
Not only was this a fun promo, but a reveal of most of the stories in the book.
Next month I’ll be launching preorders for the book and I’ve got an idea for the announcement!

Fun video Angiemoon. I hope you have better luck with your book than I have with mine. I wrote and self-published (Amazon) it. It languishes in 10 millionth place. :={
